Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Porsche is finally showing the historic ‘Porsche No. 1’ at this years Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 14. The one-of-a-kind, two-seat sports car officially known as Type 356-001 was developed and built by Dr. Ferdinand ‘Ferry’ Porsche in Gmünd, Austria 1947. The legendary sports car is the lynchpin of Porsche’s design philosophy, which is still evident in Porsche designs today. The occasion is a sentimental one, since it was in celebration of Porsche's 50th anniversary at the Monterrey Historics in 1998, that Porsche No. 1 was supposed to make its first North American appearance, but was canceled when it was damaged in Chicago on its way to California. Now thousands of Porsche loyalists will be able to see the vehicle (pictured above) in the metal. See press release below for full historic account.
