Several spy shots are all over the internet, depicting the next BMW 5 Series which is due for unveiling in 2010 and goes on sale in most world markets in 2011. Our artist has put CGI and Photoshop together to create an agile rendering of the 5 Series using the concept CS as a basis. Several existing technologies will feature in the 5 Series, including further improved iDrive, FlexRay processing, the electro-magnetic handbrake, HUD, as well as Active Steering. Bigger, wider and longer than current 5, new car grows in size but not by much. BMW’s new double-clutch M-DCT gearbox with 7 speeds is part of the package. Currently the ‘box can handle close to 600Nm in torque. Key engines will be the 3.0-litre twin turbo petrol, 2.0-litre twin turbo diesel, the hybrid and the 4.4-litre twin turbo V8. Three brand new engines will also feature, introducing themselves through the 5 and include a new compact super diesel making well over 700Nm. Later in 2013 the mighty M5 should be seen boasting over 450kW under the hood. What is unclear at this point is if that power will come force-fed or by natural means. BMW spokespersons have said the company does not rule out turbocharged M cars, "as long as they keep to the traditions of what an M car stands for". Be assured though that whatever it is, it does not yet exist and will debut as a brand new engine.

Next Generation BMW 5-Series Spy Video The BMW 5-series began to reveal some of its eventual styling a couple of months a go when it shed part of its disguising revealing part of its signatur grille. We can now enjoy this model beating down the Nurburgring in a new video caught by our spy photographers. Overall the 5-Series is set to receive less adventurous styling along the lines of the conservative E90 3-Series while receiving some design cues, particularly in the rear, from the 7 Series. Electronic features to name a few will include wide angle cameras in the side mirrors for greater overall visibility, upgraded iDrive user control system and enhanced Park Distance Control with visual display. Set to debut on the new 7-Series, the F10 5-Series will receive a new 8-speed electronic automatic transmission for ultra smooth shifts and efficiency while the M5 will be the only 5 Series model to receive the new double clutch M-DCT sequential transmission which appears on the M3 later this year. Also, optional all-wheel-drive and a wide range of six petrol engines from the 2.5-liter 218hp to 4.4 liter V8 twin-turbo with 400hp found in the X6 and four diesels ranging from 2.0 liter 175hp to the twin turbo 286hp 3.0-liter inline 6. With the current E60 5-Series on the market since 2004, the arrival of the F10 5er is still less than two years away with an expected launch in spring 2010 as a 2011 model and the M5 to follow a year later. Surely we can expect the 5 Series prototypes to gradually shed their camouflage over the next year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBZaXRN2PcE
