Ever since the Prancing Horse released initial details of the Ferrari California we have been left in awe over the model, but being restricted to just computer enhanced images left us wanting more. Fortunately German site Autobild has managed to obtain a group of shots of the new model out in the real world. The California will be fully unveiled for the world's media and viewing public at the Paris Motor Show in September and leading up to the event Ferrari have been gradually releasing further details through a special mini site. The California slots in at the bottom of the Ferrari portfolio just below the Scaglietti 612, it is powered by new 460 hp 4.3-Liter V8 Engine placed in the mid-front position of the car and features direct fuel injection and a “flat” crankshaft. Iut is mated to a brand new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission system which enables the California to launch from 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds. The world debut of the all new Ferrari California is edging ever closer and the Italians continue to tease us with small details of the newest model to be added to the Prancing Horse's portfolio. The Latest of these is the production of this nicely edited computer animated video clip showing the California racing round a racetrack. Additonally to further whet your apetite, feast your eyes upon this whole new set of high-res images. The California is the first model in Ferrari's history to feature a mid-front positioned engine, this engine in question is a new 4.3-Liter V8 Engine with direct fuel injection and a “flat” crankshaft, output stands at 460 horsepower at 7500 rpm which launches it from 0-100km/h in under 4 seconds. The new model is the first in the range to benefit from a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission which helps enhance the performance figures and driving pleasure whilst simultaneously reducing emissions(c.310 g/km CO2).

Schumacher Completes Ferrari California Development Testing As one of the most skilled racers of modern times, it's no wonder Ferrari enlists one of its most valued members, seven time Formula One World Champion, Michael Schumacher, to helps put the final touches on the testing process of the brand new Ferrari California. Involved with recent Ferrari models like the Enzo and 599 GTB, Schumacher has become a permanent fixture as a Ferrari test driver on and off the track. Currently, Schumacher is completing the track and road development stages of the Ferrari California at Ferrari's Fiorano circuit, however, he's not just fashionably late. “I have to say that, as with the 430 Scuderia, participating in the project since the very beginning has been really fascinating and great fun,” commented Schumacher at the end of a test session at the Fiorano circuit. “Although the cars are very different, they both offer absolutely unique driving pleasurebecause of the inherently sporty character of all of the cars that come out of Maranello. The 430 Scuderia is, of course, a more extreme model with a focus on absolutely cutting-edge performance. However, although the Ferrari California is very much a Grand Tourer in terms of its usability and high level of interior comfort, it is still surprisingly sporty and fun to drive under any kind of conditions.” Schumacher also recently addressed the Ferrari dealer convention in Maranello and explained the differences between the two 8-cylinders: “They were designed to meet different requirements: the 430 Scuderia is aimed at drivers who want the very essence of a Ferrari and will get it out on the track as often as they can. “The Ferrari California, on the other hand, is designed for everyday use and for weekends away whilst still guaranteeing all of the emotional impact that only an authentic Ferrari can deliver.” With Schumacher’s contribution in optimising performance parameters of the Ferrari California, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds. The California makes its public debut on October 2 at the Paris International Motor Show.
Manual Transmission & HGTC Handling Pack to be Offered for Ferrari California The Paris Motor Show is barely 6 weeks away and arguably the most anticipated unveiling at the show will be the all-new Ferrari California. Sure, we have seen just about every detail of the new entry level model from the Prancing Horse, but that doesn't compare to seeing the model in the flesh and being able to analyse the beauty with your own eyes. The mid-front engined sportscar becomes the first model in the Ferrari line-up to benefit from the new 7-speed dual clutch transmission system which does nothing but enhance the pure awesomeness of the model. However 10% of Ferrari's clientèle still demand a manual transmission, therefore the Italians will give in to this demand. No details on exactly what this manual transmission system will be however the six-speed version from 612 Scaglietti looks a good bet. An additional option set to be offered will be a new HGTC handling package, similar to the one already offered in the 612 Scaglietti. It will include a set of lightweight wheels as well as a slightly revised suspension system that will hug the California to the ground just a little bit more.

Ferrari California Unveiled at Paris Motor Show In California they say women are as fast as the cars, and that on the beaches they drop their tops as quickly as this Ferrari California. At 14 seconds from up to down it may be really hard to beat, by the summer ladies that is. It’s a hardtop made of aluminium to keep the weight down. And when it’s down there is very little to quieten-down that V8 which sings a chorus that only 460 horses can sing through those four pipes at the back. Those concave/ convex lines that change direction as quickly as the California on a long stretch of freeway, on their way from the front to the elevated rear, LED lights protruding just slightly from where the spoiler meets boot. Ferrari, having gone massively GT with 612 Scaglietti, have provided another avenue for this type of vehicle by offering California customers a choice of either bench-style sitting behind the two front seats or seating for one or two passengers. It’s for those times when 460 horses demand to be shared with an appreciative audience. That 4.3-litre V8 and its 485Nm hurl the California from 0 – 100km/h in “under 4 seconds”, running out of punch at 310km/h. The Ferrari California turns in 13.1 litres/100 km (ECE combined) and emits 305.6 g\km in harmful carbons. Various suspension settings are possible depending on the driver’s whim at the time, but the California was conceived primarily as a track star, and will therefore always gravitate towards that origin no matter what setting. For example, the new 7-speed double-clutch gearbox is a big factor when it comes to fuel efficiency, yet it is quick on the change and can be enacted using F1-style steering-wheel paddle shifters. This is a very well-equipped Ferrari, featuring comforts like iPod jack, sat nav, 6.5-inch touch screen and a USB port. Nice to have, but can’t really compare to the chorus of 460 mares through that tunnel.
