Tough times call for new gimics. Getting customers into showrooms has become more difficult amidst looming global recession, but BMW has a new tool that could persuade the early adopters amongst us. Introducing the BMW Product Navigator, an interactive computer screen that uses Microsoft Surface, a multi-touch interface that allows a user or multiple users to manipulate digital content by using hand movements instead of a mouse or keyboard. The Product Navigator allows prospective BMW customers to configure their new car with different colors, wheels, and interior trim by placing samples on the screen surface. Once complete, the customer can view videos of their model as well as 360-degree views inside and out. BMW is the first car manufacturer worldwide using this technology commercially.
