As far as we know these are the very first pictures of the so-called SLC Gullwing revival prototype actually showing its 'gullwing' doors. Its existence rumored since the first prototype images surfaced in the American dessert over a year ago, the project, which is being developed by AMG partner in Deutsche Tourenwagon Masters (DTM) championship, HWA Racing, pays homage to the legendary 300 SL Gullwing from the fifties. According to Car Magazine, the Gullwing will be aimed primarily at the Porsche 911 Turbo with a target price of roughly ?150,000 – both a coupe (codenamed C197) and a roadster (codenamed R197) will be produced and it will be slightly smaller than the outgoing SLR. Power will come from AMG's 6.2-litre V8 producing 550bhp and 445lb ft of torque, allowing the Gullwing to achieve 0-60mph in just 3.8 seconds, maximum speed stands at 185mph. The coupe is likely to make its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show with the roadster set to arrive a year later, there are only 6000 units of each model planned and is currently penciled in to cease production in 2013.
Mercedes SLC Wings in for a Shot or Two One year on from the first sighting of the C197 when our spies caught a badly assembled machine made from several old Dodge Viper parts, we can now bring you photos of the model in early development form. It has often been referred to as the Mercedes Gullwing but it is largely expected the final production model will carry the label SLC and with a model this sporty we should also see AMG in there somewhere. The juicy details continue to evade the surface leaving us analysing the pictures you see before your eyes. We can see a strip of LED, daytime running lights along the bottom of the headlight clusters. There also seem to be additional LEDs in the top section of the headlight cluster. Another details that pops out are the large cross-drilled, slotted rotors. Those large rotors will be stopping a set of Pirelli tires. We're also pretty sure a large Mercedes star will be dead centre on the grill much like it appeared on the 300 SL. The SLC is expected to be introduced at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, with a limited sales run of just two years and 12000 units and should carry a price tag of several hundred thousand dollars. We’re hearing horsepower estimates in the 550-650 range, with power expected to come from a forced-induction V8, or maybe even a V10.
Mercedes SLC Spy Video The Mercedes SLC which is also often referred to as the Gullwing has yet to hit full prototype form, it has continued to sport the temporary body panels as it continues its lengthy development process leaving many guessing what the final design may be. Of course, the Mercedes line-up has a very clear, yet similar design through its entire product range meaning renderings such as the superb version produced from WCF resident renderer Larson(see right) surely won't be too far off. Just to state the obvious, the Gullwing name comes from the top opening entrance doors and it will replace the Mercedes-Mclaren SLR which will soon come to its production end after the upcoming SLR speedster. Power will come from AMG's 6.3-litre V8 with a power figure in the region of 571bhp expected. Courtesy of a lightweight aluminium spaceframe chassis, Mercedes will aim to keep the overall dry weight below 1650kg and pricing will likely start at around ?150,000. Sources state we will see a concept version of the model in 2009, possibly at Frankfurt before the full production model is revealed to the Public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. Scans of Mercedes SLC Gullwing interior surface A few photos showing the new Mercedes-Benz "Gullwing" SLC have creeped up again. This time the interior is under the spotlight showing a very retro look. Interestingly we have no source for this photography, but we are inclined to believe they come either from Mercedes themselves as a marketing "leak" ploy or from an insider. Quality is not exactly up to our usual standards; take the slanted borders on the left and right sides that lead to suspicions of a scanned document, an internal pamphlet/brochure perhaps. And the instrument cluster image, our spy photographers are good but not so good as to get inside the car and take a straight-on shot like that. Shared Mercedes switchgear is pretty evident, such as the COMMAND knob at the centre console, temperature switches, flat-bottomed steering wheel and headlight switch. SLC is of course the in-house Mercedes supercar brought on to replace the SLR, since McLaren and the Germans are parting ways, developing their own cars. Power source is the 6.2-litre V8 producing upwards of a highly desirable 550bhp and 445lb ft of torque. We should start to spy the car in its own skin, out of that Viper garment, pretty soon.
