As widely reported over the past several months, Mercedes has launched the new E-Class Coupe as a replacement to its discontinued CLK-Class. Following the debut of the redesigned E63 AMG Sedan at the New York Auto Show last week, it’s logical to expect an E63 AMG Coupe will soon come arrive to fill the void left by the CLK63 AMG. But Mercedes-Benz has decided against offering such a vehicle, a new report finds.

The reason, according to a company insider, is company management decided an E63 Coupe would be too close in price and features to the CLS63 “four-door-coupe.” As a result, plans for the car were scrapped. That means there will be no direct BMW M3 rival from Mercedes for the foreseeable future.

“We had a good look where it would fit into the line-up and eventually came to the conclusion it would be too close to the CLS63 AMG, both in positioning and price,” a source told the U.K.’s Autocar.

The decision means there will also be no successor to the popular CLK AMG Black Series, which was an ultra-high-performance version of the CLK63. Mercedes did, however, confirm there will be a new CLS AMG equipped with a new twin-turbo V8, which will likely have more power but less displacement and better fuel economy.
